Rogue River
The Rogue is a river that inspires strong loyalty. Many of our guests return to her year after year, making it a regular part of their vacation plans. The river offers a near perfect combination of exciting but safe rapids, warm water, a lovely green canyon, a comfortable pace and plenty of wildlife. It is a wonderful river for families and beginners, yet offers enough whitewater excitement for young adults and river veterans.
Wildlife on the Rogue includes deer, black bears (visible but too timid to be a problem,) osprey, bald eagles, and river otter. We often spot salmon on their way to their breeding grounds upstream, and we think a beaver has moved in across from one of our regular camps. A special treat is to watch an osprey dive into the river, come up with a fish, and carry it to its nest.
Most of our Rogue trips are four days long, with three nights of camping. In late May and early June we run three-day lodge trips, with two nights in the canyon. One or both of these nights we spend in lodges located along the river. Beginning on several Saturdays in the summer we run three-day trips with one night of camping and one night at a lodge.
There is much to see and do in the area before or after your Rogue trip. Crater Lake is two and a half hours from our meeting place, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland is about an hour away. We end our trip about 30 miles from the ocean, and the Oregon coast is beautiful. Redwood National Park in California is less than two hours away. One can easily build a longer vacation around a Rogue trip.
