California Whitewater Rafting — RAFT THE SOUTH FORK OF THE AMERICAN RIVER — Once you’ve signed up for your American River whitewater rafting trip with Adventure Connection, you may be wondering if you should do anything to physically prepare. Will you need to learn any special skills or pass any fitness tests before you go?
The answer is, no, you don’t have to worry about anything like that before your trip. You will be given basic instruction on paddling and steering your raft, before you set out, and you will have at least one experienced guide on your raft at all times. You don’t have to worry about being an expert before you leave. Some of the rafting trips are more advanced and require some experience before you go, but you will be asked that when you book.
Like any physical activity, paddling the raft will require some exertion. You may find that you’re sore, after the trip, if you aren’t used to a lot of paddling. But there’s no need to take extra classes at the gym to get in shape for your trip. In fact, many trips are open to paddlers as young as seven, so, as long as you can lift the paddle, you’ll be fine.
