While you’re getting ready for your first American River rafting trip, you probably already have the list of things to pack from Adventure Connection. You know what you should bring. How about making a list of things that you should leave it home?
When you are packing your clothing, it’s a good idea to stay away from cotton fabrics, unless you’re going on a really hot day. You will be getting wet, and wet cotton will make you cold. The best material for your rafting clothes will be lightweight nylon that will dry quickly. If you are going rafting in cold weather, you will want to have wool clothing that will retain heat even when wet.
You also want to make sure that you have shoes that will stay on your feet if you end up in the water, so don’t bring any boots or flip-flops. Wear old tennis shoes or water shoes, such as Tevas. Be sure to protect your head from the sun with a hat that has a brim, as well as a strap to keep it on your head. You don’t want to go without a hat, unless you want to risk sunburn on top of your head.
Also, be sure to leave your valuables at home when going on a California whitewater rafting trip. You don’t want to risk your expensive camera out on the river where it could get swept out of the raft or damaged by water, and you don’t want to leave it unsupervised at camp. The same goes for expensive watches, jewelry, and other valuable or sentimental items. Never bring pets along on a river rafting trip.
If you have any further questions about what you should or shouldn’t bring, be sure to contact the experts at Adventure Connection before your trip. They are happy to help you with any questions about packing for the trip itself. Their goal is for you to have a wonderful time white water rafting in California.
