What Equipment Do You Need to Go Whitewater Rafting in California?

When you are planning your California white water rafting trip, you may be wondering what equipment you need to bring to have a good whitewater rafting trip.

First of all, the major items will be taken care of by your whitewater rafting outfitter, Adventure Connection. For your white water rafting trip, they will provide the raft, flotation devices, food and a knowledgeable guide. In addition to these things, here are a few things you’ll want to have to make your trip more enjoyable:

  • Bring quick dry clothing, if possible. Remember that, once cotton gets wet, it stays wet and can be uncomfortable. You’ll also want shorts, a swimsuit, tennis shoes or Tevas, a nylon hat or visor, a windbreaker, a strap for your sunglasses, waterproof sunscreen and dry clothes for wearing around camp.
  • If you are going on an overnight trip, you’ll need a sleeping bag, a tent and sleeping pad (can be rented), a ground cloth, toiletries, insect repellant, flashlight, jacket or sweater, pants and dry shoes, a towel and a washcloth.
  • If you like, you can bring a musical instrument and a camp chair for evening, alcohol (in moderation) and a camera with a waterproof case. However, Adventure Connection recommends you purchase a waterproof disposable camera from them, instead of risking yours, and that you leave all valuables at home.

If you have any further questions about your trip and what you should or shouldn’t bring, contact Adventure Connections. They will be happy to advise you on the best way to enjoy your white water rafting trip on the American River.
